We kick off the festival on Friday at 5 pm on the Basque Block. There will be professional athletes from the Basque Country playing handball throughout the weekend in the Fronton (619 Grove Street) with semi-finals on Friday night and the finals on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday begins at 11 AM on the Block. Chorizos, croquetas, and drinks are available to be enjoyed while you watch an afternoon full of performances. Boiseko Gazteak, Boise’s youngest Basque Dancers (ages 3-14) start the day of dancing. Txantxangorriak, a basque music group is next. The Oinkari Basque Dancers will be the final performance of the day on the Block. They are a group that has been a vital part of the Idaho Basque community since 1960 and has toured all over the world promoting Basque American culture. At 7 PM at St. Marks’ Catholic Church (7503 W Northview) there is a Catholic Mass featuring the Onati Dantza Taldea. Back on the Block that evening Amerikunak, a Basque band from Salt Lake, will perform for a street dance.
Sunday is our final day of celebrations. There will be women’s handball games in the Fronton once again and that evening Amerikunak will entertain for another dance, opened by Txantxangorriak and bertsolariak.
