Of all Shakespeare’s comedies, The Merry Wives of Windsor is the one that most resembles a modern sitcom.
It all begins with John Falstaff’s plan to woo both Mistress Page and Mistress Ford by sending them each the same letter professing his love. When the women discover they received the same letter, they begin plotting revenge on the knight.
Meanwhile, the jealous Ford believes his wife to be unfaithful and sets out on his own plot to catch her in the act. Under the guise of “Master Brook,” Ford gets close to Falstaff to get proof.
The Boise Bard Players is a mobile, minimalist non-profit theatre company based in Boise, ID making Shakespeare and other classics economically and emotionally accessible.
