Surel\’s Place Presents Ourself Behind Ourself, Concealed
Featuring: Dave Eggar (cello) and Tasha Warren (bass clarinet, clarinet) with Meg Okura (violin), Chad Spears (piano), Chuck Palmer (percussion). Featuring dancers from LED, the Idaho Fine Arts Academy, and Andrew Nemr. Plus a special performance by Tiokasin Ghosthorse with Lakota Flute.
Student discount available for any student with ID and children.
The show, Ourself Behind Ourself, Concealed, will feature six of the most dynamic and diverse composers working today. The Boise audience will be just the second ever to hear performances of these works by Martha Redbone, a Black and Native American from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky; Meg Okura, a Jewish Japanese-American jazz violinist who incorporates her many diverse identities into her work; Haitian flautist Nathalie Joachim and more.
Along with Grammy-award-winning cellist Dave Eggar and clarinetist Tasha Warren, who pulled this amazing album together, we are bringing to Boise Okura, percussionist Chuck Palmer, and the amazing Tiokasin Ghosthorse, master of the traditional cedar Lakota flute.
A few local favorites will be on hand as well. Lauren Edson is choreographing a premier dance for LED, and both Andrew Nemr and students from the Idaho Fine Arts Academy will perform to new pieces.
