Idaho Artist Turns Rotting Tree into Something Incredible

When a tree began to rot in the yard of an artist in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, she knew exactly what to do.

A Coeur d’Alene artist has gone viral on Facebook and Reddit for her latest project. She transformed the stump of a 100-year-old tree into what she calls a “little free library”. The hollowed out tree stump has shelves filled with books that anyone can take and/or leave a book for someone else.

The core of this ancient tree had begun to rot and branches were falling so it needed to be dealt with. And local artist Sharalee Armitage Howard knew exactly how to do it. After having worked on a “little free library” project before, she was inspired to do it again, and the tree was the perfect opportunity.

Sharalee’s Facebook post has been shared over 100,000 times! Over 300,000 more have seen the video on Facebook that KREM created about the tree. It’s always great to see such positive things in the news, and Sharalee deserves all the praise she is receiving.

The project led to something that is not only visually appealing but also useful. Everyone in her neighborhood will benefit from her talent, creativity, and generosity. Her skills transformed a potential eye-sore into a thing of beauty.
