GRAND PRIX OF MONTEREY (September 21-22) – Local racecar driver, Sting Ray Robb (Payette, ID), who is racing in the Indy Pro 2000 Team Cooper Tire Championship, raced in the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca near Monterey, CA. In this thriller end of season race Sting Ray racked up a pole position (P1), the fastest race lap, set a new race record, and brought home some additional hardware with another podium finish.

After 16 Rounds the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 season came to a close on the extremely technical 2.238 mile, 11-Turn, road course that touts numerous elevation changes including the legendary Corkscrew. On Friday, the field was allotted only one, very short 30-minute practice session. Consequently, several drivers including Sting Ray were seriously challenged because they had never been on this demanding track. That practice session was followed several hours later with Qualifying Session 1 for Race 1, which kicked off the weekend of racing.

Sting Ray, driving the Juncos Racing #2 car dominated qualifying for Round 15 to claim his second pole of the season. Juncos Racing continued their outstanding performance for the final qualifying session of the 2019 season Saturday morning with both Sting Ray, his teammate Lindh and current points leader battling for the top 3 positions during the 20-minute session. Sting Ray took the third starting position by narrowly missing P2 by .0484 of a second.

The Indy Pro 2000 field returned to the track later that day for Race 1. Sting Ray started from the pole position while teammate Lindh started just behind in row 2. Sting Ray went on to post the fastest lap of the race and led 22 of the 25-lap race. However, after hitting gravel thrown on the track from the car in last place just as Sting Ray was preparing to pass him, Sting Ray slid off the track. He fell to second with three laps to go. Sting Ray had a substantial lead prior to the slide which allowed him to maneuver back on to the track and hold on to that second place position earning his sixth podium of the season.

The 2019 season concluded Sunday afternoon with Race 2 and Lindh (Sting Ray’s teammate) starting from the pole position and Sting Ray in third. At the wave of the green flag, a car hit Sting Ray breaking his front wing and then another car flew over and clipped his rear wing. The damage incurred in the multi-car incident forced him to pit for repairs during the full course yellow flag. Juncos Racing was able to get his repaired car back on the track without losing a lap. Sting Ray then battled his way back from thirteenth to an amazing sixth place finish. You can check out the video of that wild start on his FB page @ Sting Ray Robb.

During the 2019 season, Sting Ray took home two poles, six podiums, and set two race track records. In addition he was awarded the prestigious “Star of the Race” on three different occasions from Road to Indy Insider and Road to Indy & IndyCar Race announcer, Rob Howden.

“To end the season with a pole and a podium feels great,” said Sting Ray. “We qualified on pole for the first race and went on to lead most of the laps, however I lost that win due to debris on the track – unfortunately that’s racing. During the first lap of the second race I was caught up in an incident that forced me to pit for repairs, but we were able to get back on track without losing a lap. That pretty much ended our drive for the win, which was very unfortunate as I know I had a car to challenge for that win. I had a good time out there running down the cars in front of me and made some nice passes to get through the field to finish sixth. The car was fast all weekend and I cannot thank the team enough for all of their effort and hard work. We ended the championship in fourth which is pretty good overall after all of the difficulties & bizarre track events we faced throughout the season. Big shout out and Thank You again to the entire Juncos Racing crew, Cooper Tires, Andersen Promotions, Road to Indy, my partners and investors (Go Out Local / Big Idaho Potato / Intervention.com / Trademark Dental / Idaho Bone Collector / Fairly Reliable Bob’s / Munk Family Dental / Treasure Valley Windshield), fans, friends and family for all of their amazing support, cheers and prayer. I’m blessed to have you all along on the ride with me and I have no doubt I wouldn’t be here without each of you. I also believe that God’s got great things in store – I’m excited to see what’s next and have you all along on the ride with me!”
