The Boise Highlanders have been an important part of local St. Patrick’s Day celebrations for more than 50 years. About 35 people make up the “all-volunteer group of bagpipers, drummers, dancers, and singers, who range in age from around 10-years-old to around 70-years-old. Each St. Patrick’s Day, the Highlanders perform in bars, restaurants, open-air areas, churches and more, and they have become so popular and so widely requested, they’re breaking up into four groups this year to cover more ground.

If you’re out celebrating this St. Patrick’s Weekend, there’s a good chance you’ll be treated to some badass bagpiping, but to make sure you don’t miss seeing the Highlanders, check out the schedule below.

Valentine's Day Gift Blog

Hey, Latey McLaterson. If you’re planning to stop on the way home to get a Valentine’s Day token of love for your one-and-only, you might need to think outside of the heart-shaped box.

Instead of rifling through whatever is left at the drugstore, stop by a cool local shop like Flying M CoffeeHouse (Boise), Flying M CoffeeGarage (Nampa), Made In Idaho, Mixed Greens, or The Record Exchange, where you’ll find a selection of handbags, wallets, notebooks, t-shirts, socks, music, TV/movie collectibles, jewelry, sweets, toys, and more—much of it made locally.

Even if you’re a Procrastinating Pat, you can still get a gift that says, “I may have waited until the last-minute, but I got you something as brilliant/cheeky/humorous/intelligent/quirky/unique as you are.”

GO! Support local, support love.

Kiwi Shake And Bake

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_single_image image=”40541″ img_size=”400×267″ alignment=”center”][ultimate_heading sub_heading_font_family=”font_family:Lato|font_call:Lato|variant:regular” sub_heading_font_size=”desktop:20px;mobile_landscape:18px;mobile:18px;” sub_heading_style=”font-weight:normal;font-style:normal;” margin_design_tab_text=””]

Are you convinced Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a money-making scam created by a cabal of greeting card companies? Do you groan when you see heart-shaped boxes of chocolate on store shelves two days after Christmas? Does seeing “I WUV YOU” stitched on a plush pink teddy bear make you feel like poking your eyes out? If you answered yes to any/all of the questions above, you’re not alone. Like others who share your disdain, however, you may have someone significant in your life who looks forward to the heart-filled holiday. So if you want to plan something special for your special someone—or you just want to treat yourself—and don’t know where to start, check out this list of local restaurants/businesses offering ways to celebrate. You can go back to being a cranky conspiracy theorist on Feb. 15.

Addie’s (Boise)—If you’re looking for something a bit unconventional, take your loved one out for breakfast. Who says eggs Benedict can’t be romantic?

Kiwi Shake And Bake

Kiwi Shake & Bake (Boise)—You don’t have to fly across the world to enjoy New Zealand cuisine in a modern-yet-cozy setting.

Reel Foods (Boise)—Studies show oysters are an aphrodisiac. Studies probably also show bringing home fresh seafood is key to a happy healthy relationship.

Relic Theatre & Grill (Nampa)—When dinner with a movie is your favorite kind of date night.

Riverside Hotel Bed And Wine

Riverside Hotel (Boise)—If you want this Valentine’s Day to be unforgettable, a getaway package that includes accommodations, dinner, breakfast and more could be one for the books.

Solid Grill and Bar/Liquid Lounge (Boise)—21st century poet R.M. Drake wrote, “… I always felt a little more when I would hear you laugh.” Get all the feels with a dinner-and-a-comedy-show package.

Trillium in The Grove Hotel (Boise)—Enjoy fine dining in a fine setting. Make it a luxurious package with a massage, manicure, or other esthetic treatment at the Grove Fitness Club & Spa.
